Grown in the Mandakini basin at around 2600 ft, this red rice retains part of its natural bran layer, giving it its distinct color. Unlike fully polished white rice, only the outermost husk and outer hard bran is removed, leaving behind a lighter bran that makes it easier to cook while still preserving its character. The result is a more filling rice that digests slower and keeps you satisfied with smaller portions.

Know your Cereals

Himalayan red rice is an ancient grain of Uttarakhand Himalayas grown from time immemorial in this region. This pack of red rice is sourced from the middle Himalayan region of Mandakini river basin.

Benefits & Uses

1.Due to the presence of a component called anthocyanin, this rice is usually consumed either partially hulled or un-hulled. Red rice derives its eye-grabbing color from this component and has much more nutrient value as compared to other varieties of rice. What makes this variant of rice a healthy choice is the red husk, which is loaded with the goodness of nature.
1. Red rice has lots of fiber, due to the bran, and the flavor is significantly more powerful compared to hulled rice, tasting more nutty and full.
2. Its abundant fiber helps establish a healthy digestive system.
3. It is a rich source of potassium, manganese, iron, zinc, vitamins B1 and B2, together with other valuable minerals.
4. It also provides antioxidants that help defend cells from damage caused by potentially harmful molecules known as free radicals.
5. Authentic Himalayan red rice is quite rare so it comes at a high cost.

FAQ's

What makes these Himalayan cereals different from regular market grains?

Our cereals are sourced from traditional Himalayan farms and are minimally processed to retain their natural structure, texture and character. Unlike heavily refined grains, they remain more filling and closer to how grains were traditionally consumed.

Are these cereals polished or refined?

No. These cereals are either unpolished or minimally processed, helping retain their natural outer layers, texture and nutritional character.

Do these cereals feel heavier than regular rice or wheat?

Most people find them more satisfying but not heavy. Since they are less refined and more filling, smaller portions are usually enough.

Are these cereals suitable for everyday meals?

Yes. They can be used regularly in place of refined grains depending on your cooking style and preference.

Are these cereals gluten free?

Some cereals like red rice and amaranth are naturally gluten free. However, they are processed in environments where other grains may also be handled.

Why do these grains take slightly longer to cook?

Traditional and less-refined grains retain more of their natural structure, so they may need slightly more water or cooking time compared to heavily polished grains.

Why does the texture feel different from regular market grains?

These are traditional varieties and are not engineered for ultra-soft texture or uniform appearance. Their natural texture and taste are part of their original character.
